Coconut oil has hit the headlines recently as the new best kept secret. It is one of those products that you hear about but never really know what it is good for and where you can get it. In a nut shell coconut oil is amazing for your body, not just on the outside, but inside too.
It strengthens your skin’s connective tissue, which in time prevents lines and wrinkles from forming, it promotes healing and repairing of the skin and tissues, and finally it leaves the skin smooth, soft and supple.
Coconut oil is also an edible oil extracted from the kernel/meat of matured coconuts harvested from the coconut palm. From hair de- frizzer to body scrubber , and to miracle make up removal, below are a few examples of what coconut can do.
Hair de- frizzer – by rubbing a small amount of coconut oil from root to tip, it acts as an intensive moisturiser for your hair, leave it on for a few minutes then rinse off in the shower to have better behaving hair. You can also leave it on over- night as a treatment, but this can sometimes leave your hair slightly greasy. It’s one of the most popular uses of coconut oil, as the natural oil repels water to prevent the frizz.
Removal of Make Up – nowadays make up can be extremely tough to remove, you end up waking up with panda eyes even after you have used half a bottle of remover, but those days are gone with this amazing product. Coconut oil has gentle grime-removing action and also has antibacterial properties too.
Moisturisers – The fatty acids in coconut oil reinforce the skins natural lipid barrier. This process helps lock in moisture, and promoted healthy hydrated skin. Ideally use with your original night moisturiser to give it an extra boost. Using in the morning can make your skin look greasy so its best used at night. You can also use the harden form of the oil as a lip balm, this is ideal for winter when your lips start to crack.
Nails – using coconut oil as a cuticle softener and mixed in with your hand cream also promotes hydration especially in those winter months. It doesn’t help your nails grow but will help prevent them from becoming brittle.
Body scrubs – this I have tried and tested and it is amazing. Mix sugar and coconut oil together to make yourself an amazing body scrub to use in the shower. Apply to damp skin, rub in circular movements all over and rinse with the shower, wow you will be amazed at the result. Twice a week is ideal. Mix it with a moisturiser for a facial scrub. Use it as a weekly treatment on your feet as it contains natural antibacterial qualities.
So you can see why this amazing product has been hitting the headlines. Beware though, only buy Virgin Coconut Oil, as this is the most natural. Other oils are mixed with other ingredients and you do not get the benefits. Also avoid Extra Virgin Coconut Oil as there is no difference from the normal Virgin Oil.
There have been other suggestions that Coconut oil is good for :
Stretch mark removal,
Removal of cellulite,
But these have not been sufficiently tested to say they actually work.
All in all, Coconut oil is a must have product to keep in your cupboard, that can be used on just about anything and in different forms – it can be used topical or internal to help the body look and feel amazing.
