Winter is upon us, that means outdoor activities are limited. But that does not mean that your kids don’t have to have fun!
How about an indoor picnic?
Change things up by serving lunch or dinner outside of the kitchen.
First, grab your basket (you don’t need a real picnic basket — a laundry basket will do) and assemble some picnicky foods that the kids can “pack” themselves, get it all ready in a place that they can reach easily and allow them to be involved in the process:
- juice boxes
- water bottles
- packets of raisins
- dried fruit strips
- packets of crisps
- paper plates
- Let them bring along some of their favourite books that you can read to them or they can look through
While the kids are busy filling the basket, spread a blanket in the family room and put together some sandwiches.
A great idea is to use a muffin tray as compartments for “finger foods” like carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, fruit, hot chips(the oven baked chips work great),pretzels, pasta and cheese.
You can even have a cd player nearby to play some fun music for the kids.
Then unpack your picnic, snuggle up on the blanket, eat, laugh and play!
