Virgin Coconut Oil:
Virgin coconut oil is one of the most trusted varieties of coconut oil.
In general coconuts have a great flavour and can be used in various desserts and drinks. Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties and is an excellent moisturizer.
Homemade coconut oil body butter:
Coconut oil can be used as an intensive hand or body moisturizer and is super hydrating.
Mix a cup of coconut oil (must be solid and not melted) with a teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (optional) and a few drops of your choice of an essential oil for fragrance. Place the ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk on a high speed for 6-7 minutes until it’s a light, airy consistency. This can be used as a wonderful extra rich body butter.
Coconut oil on its own can be applied to the skin, such as on your hands or feet as a stay on mask. This can be left on the skin for 15-20 minutes and then gently removed with warm water. This helps to rehydrate and nourish the hands and feet.
Coconut oil can be used as an excellent massage oil on the skin for any type of body massage.
Coconut oil can be mixed with sugar and large crystal sea salt to form a great body scrub, making the skin ultra soft, removing dead skin cells and giving the skin an instant glow.
Exfoliater for rough elbows and heels:
Mash or blend ripe figs in a bowl, then add coconut oil that is solid and not melted.
This mixture will gently exfoliate as the fig seeds will lightly clean and remove dead skin. Place it in the fridge to solidify if it gets too soft. You can add sugar if you prefer a rougher and dryer scrub. The coconut oil and sugar can melt once it’s touched the skin and can cause a slippery surface. Apply it to the skin as a scrub by gently rubbing it in small circular movements on the specific area and gently remove with warm water.
Avocado, honey, lemon, bananas, olive oil, oatmeal and almond oil:
Avocado is not only enjoyed for its wonderful taste, but also for its healing properties. Avocado is filled with vitamins such as vitamin E healthy fats and antioxidants that can keep your skin smooth. It is ideal as an ingredient in natural face masks, deeply hydrates and nourishes the skin and is beneficial for dry, dehydrated skins.

Avocado and honey face mask: (Almond oil and lemon is optional)
Puree/mash half of a ripe avocado and mix it with 1 tablespoon honey until it becomes creamy. (Freshly squeezed lemon or 1 tablespoon almond oil is optional.) Put the mixture in the fridge for 10 minutes and then apply the mask to the skin for about 15-20 minutes. Gently remove with warm water. This will enhance the skins health and result in soft, supple and glowing skin.
Honey, olive oil and oatmeal exfoliater:
Combine a teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of honey. Prepare a packet of oatmeal, using less water so that it forms a thick paste and add the honey and olive oil mixture to the cooked oatmeal.
Apply it to the skin as a scrub by gently rubbing it in small circular movements around the skin, avoiding the eye area. Gently remove with warm water after about 5-6 minutes.
Banana and honey mask:
Mash half a banana. Once smooth mix with 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply the mask to the skin for about 15-20 minutes. Gently remove with warm water.
Jojoba oil and shea butter:
Jojoba oil moisturizes the skin with its high nutritional vitamins – E, C and B complex as well as zinc properties and is also rich with copper and iodine.
Shea butter comes from the nut of a shea tree grown in West Africa. Its natural moisturizing components are considered to be one of the best remedies for dry, cracked skin.

Always remember that even though these homemade recipes are made with natural ingredients from the comfort of your own home and kitchen, you still need to be careful and like any other beauty product, it can cause an allergic reaction on the skin.
An ‘allergy test’ can be done on the skin by preparing and making your specific beauty product mixture and then applying a small amount of the product onto a small part of the skin, either behind the ear or on the inner part of the elbow. Wait 15-20 minutes. If during this time or once removed, there are any signs of irritation or severe redness that may appear on the skin, do not risk it and remove the product immediately.
