She previously worked as a Strategy Consultant for a leading South African bank, until her eldest daughter was born with congenital pneumonia, and motherhood become her primary occupation, as her baby was ill frequently. Two years later, Ruth was expecting twins and decided that getting a nanny was a necessity. However, it was crucial to find someone that was trained and competent to care for the twins if Ruth was occupied with a sick 2 yr old. It was this dilemma, and battling to find someone competent, that sparked the idea for Help at Home. From 2007, Help At Home was created to train and place competent, caring and capable nannies and domestics to mothers in Johannesburg. All the nannies are trained comprehensively in Childcare, fully reference checked and interviewed before being placed. Help at Home was also the first agency to introduce fingerprint-based criminal checks – and each lady placed undergoes this check. A second course in Mental Stimulation has since been developed and is presented by a pre-school teacher. Help at Home also offers medical insurance for nannies, and small business staff – giving domestic workers the ability to have private healthcare. The business has two offices in Johannesburg, and serves the greater Johannesburg area.
